Susan Maxey holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration with a minor in Gifted Education from Texas State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in English from The University of Texas at Austin. As a professional educator for 30 years, Susan has worked in public and independent schools, serving as a teacher, as an advocate for advanced learners, and as a leader of gifted programming. After spending ten years at Education Service Center Region 13 training teachers and leading education specialists in the area of differentiated instruction and special program support, Susan worked at several Central Texas school districts’ central offices, including time as a Director of Professional Learning and an Executive Director of Special Services. After retiring from public education in December 2020, she joined the Blaze team serving in a dual role as teacher and school developer. Susan is also a musician who, along with her partner Mark Viator, performs in Texas and tours the US playing music whenever possible.
